Zavier Simpson may be making his return to the NBA. Multiple outlets have reported that Simpson has signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Detroit Pistons after spending these past months on their Summer League team.
Simpson averaged 5.3 points and 2.5 assists in the Summer League. Simpson spent all of last season with the Orlando Magic’s G-League affiliate. Simpson was named to the first ever “Next Up” game at all star weekend meant to showcase the top talent in the G-League. Simpson was second in the G-League last season in total assists.
Simpson has been playing in the G-League since 2021 after a stellar career at Michigan. He made four appearances for the Oklahoma City Thunder in April of 2022 before signing with the Magic this past season. The Pistons will be Simpson’s third team.
The Exhibit 10 contract allows the Pistons to assign Zavier Simpson to a two-way contract with their G-League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise, as long as it is done before the regular season.
As of right now it is unclear whether Simpson will be suiting up for the G-League of the NBA. The Pistons currently have four guards aged 22 or younger on their team. This could allow an experienced player like Simpson to gain more playing time if the young players are not showing development.
Zavier Simpson is just the second ever Lima Senior graduate to play in the NBA, the other being John McCullough in 1982.
