Michael Deiter (Genoa) and Storm Norton (Toledo/Whitmer) have found new homes this NFL offseason. Deiter signed with the Houston Texans while Storm Norton signed with the New Orleans Saints.
Michael Deiter signed a one-year deal with the Houston Texans after spending the last three seasons with the Miami Dolphins. Deiter was a starter at left guard as a rookie before losing the starting job to free agent Ereck Flowers during his second season. During his third season in the league Deiter moved to center where he started for eight games before ending up on the IR. Last season Deiter appeared in every game but only on special teams. Deiter joins a Texans squad that are in complete rebuilding mode. Houston hasn’t won more than four games in a season since 2019.
Storm Norton signed a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints after a three year stint with the Los Angeles Chargers. Norton spent his first year in the league on the Detroit Lions, Arizona Cardinals and finally the Minnesota Vikings practice squad in 2017. Norton stayed with the Vikings through the 2018 season where he appeared in one game. Just before the 2019 season Norton was released by the Vikings and was then taken first overall in the XFL offensive lineman draft by the Los Angeles Wildcats. Following the shut down of the XFL, Norton was signed by the Chargers. Norton played sparingly in his 2020 season with the Chargers before becoming a starter in 2021. He was then involved in a heated position battle with Trey Pipkins III who would be named the 2022 starter. Norton is joining a resurging Saints squad that will be looking to make a solid playoff push.
Michael Deiter is the only Genoa grad to ever play in the NFL and will become the fourth NWO athlete to play for the Texans joinging Nate Hall (Syl. Southview), Nate Nate Washington (Tol. Scott) and Khary Campbell (Syl. Southview). Storm Norton is the sixth Whitmer grad to play in the NFL joining Phil Hoskins, Nate Holley, Chris Wormley, Heath Wingate and Lou Marotti. Norton will become the ninth local athlete to play for the Saints joining Ethan Wolf (Minster), Brandon Fields (Tol. St. John’s), Richard Newsome (Fostoria), Alan Kline (Tif. Columbian), Fred Sturt (Swanton), Don Coleman (Tol. St. John’s), Jim Otis (Celina) and Tom Barrington (Lima Senior).
