Two local athletes reach MLB Playoffs

Two Northwest Ohio athletes are heading to the MLB playoffs this season. Genoa’s Chris Bassitt will be leading the Blue Jays in the American League and Wakeman/Western Reserve’s Andrew Chafin will be relieving the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League.
In his first year in Toronto, Chris Bassitt has been a force of an ace on the mound. Bassitt led the AL in wins and was second in innings pitched. Bassitt is one of the main reasons the Blue Jays were able to grab a Wild Card spot. He leads Toronto in nearly all pitching statistical categories.
This is Bassitt’s first season in Toronto, where he signed as a free agent in December. Toronto signed Bassitt to a three year-$63 million dollar deal after he spent one year with the Mets.
In the National League, Andrew Chafin will be on the mound in relief for the Milwaukee Brewers. Chafin was aquired by the Brewers after a mid-season trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Chafin helped the Brewers to a first place spot in the NL Central.
This is Andrew Chafin’s third playoff appearance. He played in three games in 2017 with the Daimondbacks and one game with the Cubs in 2020.

On September 30th Terion Stewart (Sandusky) had 138 rushing yards and a touchdown in a BGSU win over Georgia Tech.
