NWO brings home two football state titles

Division III
Toledo Central Catholic made it two-for-two as they repeated as state champions this season. The Fighting Irish moved down from Division II to Division III.
Bishop Watterson struck first in the title game, jumping out to a 7-0 lead. Toledo Central Catholic struck back midway through the second quarter to tie it up. The momentum swing happened with just 18 seconds left in the half when the Fighting Irish scored on a 6 yard pass to a take a 14-7 lead into the half.
The Fighting Irish really stuck it to Bishop Watterson in the second half. Scoring another touchdown in the 3rd quarter and a field goal in the fourth. The Fighting Irish defense held Bishop Watterson to -6 rushing during the game.
This was the fifth state title for the Fighting Irish (05, 12, 14, 22, 23), the first state title for them in the Catholic High School League and the 8th won by a Lucas County school.
Division VII
The Marion Local Flyers dominated on their way to a third straight state title. The Flyers moved back down to Division VII after being in Division VI last year.
After the first quarter the Flyers were already up 14-0. The second quarter saw Marion Local score two more touchdowns and kick a field goal with 18 seconds left to take a 31-0 lead into halftime. By midway through the third quarter Marion Local had the game wrapped up as they put the nail in the coffin with a touchdown to make the score 38-0. A score that would hold until the end of the game.
This is Marion Local’s 14th state championships (00, 01, 06, 07, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 19, 21, 22, 23), the 42nd for the Midwest Athletic Conference and 28th for Mercer County.

On December 1st Vince Williams Jr. (Toledo/St. John’s) had 15 points and 9 rebounds in a Grizzlies win over the Mavericks.
