Huron grad Cody Thompson went down with a major shoulder injury in the Seahawks opening preseason game. He was subsequently placed on the injured reserve list by the Seahawks. Thompson was proving to be a major force for the team as he was the second leading receiver for them in their opening scrimmage this year. Thompson has been with the team since 2019, mostly on the practice squad, but saw game time in five contests last year mostly on special teams.
This injury is devasting news considering Thompson looked poised to make the jump from practice squad to active roster contributor this season. Seattle’s outlook for the year was not bright which also would have lent itself to more playing time for Thompson. It is unclear how long Thompson is going to be out but it looks like he could miss a majority, if not all, of the season.
Thompson is the first Huron grad to play in the NFL since 1922 (Bill Slyker), the first Erie County native since 2015 (Jeff Linkenbach) and the first wide receiver from Northwest Ohio since 2017 (Griff Whalen).
