Here is a look at every player from Northwest Ohio competing in NCAA Division I women’s basketball this season.
The Battle of I-75
Plenty of locals are suiting up for the Bowling Green State Falcons and Toledo Rockets. Actually moreso than in recent years. This season’s two matchups between the teams will feature six local athletes.
For the Falcons, Emily Siesel (Buckeye Central) has played well for the Falcons off the bench in the guard position. Siesel has two years of eligibilty remaining so expect increased playing time this season. 6’01 forward Lauren Gerken (Liberty-Benton) will be entering her freshman season for the Falcons. She was twice named First Team All-Ohio in high school.
Sammi Mikonowicz (Rossford) is back for her graduate year with the Rockets. She was named Third Team All-MAC last season and started every game. The Rockets will also be getting a boost from transfer guard Kendall Carruthers (Hol. Springfield). Carruthers was named NEC Rookie of the Year and First Team All-NEC last season while at St. Francis-PA. The Rockets also add two talented freshmen in Kendall Braden (Toledo Christian) and Destiny Robinson (Fremont Ross).
