Luke Fortner (Sylvania Northview) - Fortner is entering year three with the Jaguars. He has started all 34 games of his career but it looks like Jacksonville is bumping him down to second string going into the season. We’ll see how long that relegation lasts as the need to protect franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence grows greater as the franchise looks to turn the corner.
Michael Deiter (Genoa) - Deiter is entering his first year with the Washington Commanders after spending last season with the Texans. The former All-Big Ten player from Wisconsin started his career with Dolphins, but has since looked for greener pastures. Deiter is going into the season as the second string center for an offensive line that needs serious backup.
Storm Norton (Whitmer) - Norton is entering year two with Falcons. This will be Norton’s seventh year of pro football (6 in the NFL, 1 in the XFL). Norton provides veteran depth to an offensive line that is now in charge of protecting quarterback Kirk Cousins. Norton appeared in 14 games last season, starting 3.
James Hudson III (Toledo Central Catholic) - James Hudson enters year four in the NFL, all with the Cleveland Browns. Hudson is expecting to take over the injured Jedrick Wills Jr. and add depth to an already injured line. Hudson started 7 games last for Cleveland. He enters the final year of his rookie contract.
Tycen Anderson (Toledo St. John’s) - Anderson was hurt in rookie campaign in 2022 and played sparingly last season. This season, he enter the year as the backup free safety for the Bengals. Anderson adds explosive depth in the secondary as well as speed for the special teams unit.
Phil Hoskins (Whitmer) - Phil Hoskins is on the Dallas practice squad heading into the season. Hoskins played with the Panthers for two years before ending up on the Chiefs practice squad when then won the Super Bowl in the 2022 season. He then was signed by the Cardinals in the middle of the season last year and appeared in 5 games.
Cody Thompson (Huron) - Cody Thompson is on the Tampa Bay practice squad this year. After spending significant time on Seattle’s squad, where he made his first catch a year ago, Thompson took his talents to Tampa Bay where he just missed making the cut in a crowded receiver room.
Chris Wormely (Whitmer) - The free agent veteran pass rusher has played for three teams since his career started in 2017. He has been linked to rumors this season that he may be signed by the Giants to bolster their defensive line.
Around the Diamond
Andrew Chafin (Western Reserve) earned a hold against the Athletics on September 1st, facing four batters and surrending no runs. On the 3rd against the Yankees he gave up a run and against four batter faced and on the 7th gave up a run against three batters faced versus the Angels.
Chris Bassitt (Genoa) threw 92 pitches against 27 batters against the Phillies on September 3rd. He had 7 strikeouts and gave up 3 earned runs.
Kade Kern (Archbold) was assigned from High-A Rome to Single-A Augusta.
Tyler Wehrle (Lakota) pitched 5 innings on September 7th for High-A Wisconsin, giving up no earned runs and throwing 5 strikeouts.
Jase Bowen (Toledo Central Catholic) appeared in four games this week for the Double-A Altoona Curve. He had two total hits and two RBIs.

Connor Walendzak (Perrysburg) had 4 rushes for 19 yards and one reception for 6 yards, while Emilio Duran (Ottawa Hills) had 4 punts for 177 yards and Cavon Butler (Whitmer) had 6 tackles in a Toledo win over UMass.
Tyler Perkins (Norwalk St. Paul) had 5 punts for 223 yards in a Iowa State win over Iowa.
Garrison Smith (Norwalk) kicked a 41 yard field goal in an Akron loss to Rutgers.
