The Mid-American Conference Championships took place over the weekend and several local athletes made their mark on the collegiate landscape.
Jimmy Harkelroad (Huron) won his fourth 400m hurdle title in a row for the Akron Zips. He is the first male in conference history ever to win that event four times. Harkelroad was also a member of Akron’s winning 4x400m relay and runner-up 4x100m relay. Kent State’s Ayden Bath (Vermilion) also had an impressive showing. He took home first place in the decathlon with a score of 7,125 points. The fourth best score ever by a Northwest Ohioan. Bath also took runner-up in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.90, the third best ever in NWO history.
Davis Hedrick (Norwalk St. Paul) took runner-up in the discus competition for Akron. Also competing for Akron was Jessica Mason (Hol. Springfield) who was tenth in the pole vault and Lauren LaRue (Oregon Clay) who finished nineteenth in the 1500m.
Also taking runner-up spots were Eastern Michigan’s Ronnie Brandal (Huron) in the 800m and Gabe Singh (Syl. Northview) in the 400m hurdles. Eagles multi Cason Doolittle (Liberty-Benton) took fifth in the decathlon and Jacob Niedzwiecki (Whitmer) took sixth in the pole vault. On the women’s side Julia Sabo (Eastwood) took thirteenth in the pole vault.
Also competing for Kent State was Owen Miller (Oak Harbor) who placed eleventh in the 400m hurdles and was a part of the Golden Flashes’ fourth place 4x400m relay and Briana Wright (Lima Senior) who placed sixth in the hammer throw.
For the Lady Rockets Emily Vining (Tol. Notre Dame) took fourth in the 3000m steeplechase and Madeline Vining (Tol. Notre Dame) took twelfth in the 5000m. Khamani Jones (Whitmer) took nineteenth in 100m, twenty-second in the 200m, eleventh in the 4x100m and twelfth in the 4x400m. She was joined on the 4x400m relay with Jimesha Ragland (Tol. Start/School for the Arts), Rahzia Rios-Smith (Woodmore) and Laryah Worthy (Tol. Start) who was also a part of the 4x100m.
For Bowling Green State, Tianna Mulligan (Perrysburg) took seventh in the 400m and Payton Logan (Riverdale) was sixteenth in the javelin. Miami Ohio’s Ella Boate (Minster) took twenty-third in the 10000m while Central Michigan’s Annie Bennett (Tol. St. Ursula) took twenty-fifth. Also competing for the Chippewas was Emma Francis (Perrysburg) who finished twelfth in the 400m hurdles.
