After spending his undergraduate years helping revitalize the Kentucky Wildcats football program, Lima native Keaton Upshaw is going to spend his final year of collegiate eligibility at Georgia Southern University.
The tight end had a tough senior year. After missing his junior season with an injury, this season saw Upshaw in much more limited roll than in years past. Looking for more playing it makes sense that it was necessary for Upshaw to look elsewhere to play his graduate season. The Georgia Southern program is one on the rise and Upshaw will certainly be an instant contributor and possible all conference player for the Eagles.
During his time at Kentucky Upshaw played in 36 games catching 27 passes for 326 yards and 4 touchdowns. NFL scouts were starting to look his way before the injury bug struck. Lots of playing time and a pass first offense at Georgia Southern will certainly help his stock to play somewhere at the next level.
Upshaw was part of a host of recruits Kentucky targeted from Northwest Ohio to help revitalize their program. During his time in Kentucky he also played with Lima Central Catholic’s Darius West, Whitmer’s Phil Hoskins, Sylvania Northview’s Luke Fortner and Findlay’s Grant McKinnis. Upshaw will also not be the only Lima native to transfer to Georgia Southern for their graduate season. Basketball player and Central Catholic graduate Tre Cobbs finished out his collegiate career last year at Georgia Southern after playing for Northern Kentucky.
