Da’Sean Nelson has certainly made a name for himself in just his first season at the Division 1 level. The Junior has been a standout forward for the DePaul Blue Demons and has been unfazed by the level of play for a major conference like the Big East.
Before coming to DePaul Da’Sean Nelson was a standout player at Toledo Rogers. He first attended Kilgore College where he played junior college ball in Texas. He helped Kilgore reach the the JUCO National Tournament in both of his years on the team.
So far this season DePaul has not been a major factor in the landscape of college basketball, struggling to a 9-18 record at the time publication. However, that hasn’t been without the support of Nelson. Da’Sean has been a true force off the bench and one of the most reliable sixth men in the conference. In fact, Nelson often outplays some of the starters on his own team. For example, when DePaul upset #8 Xavier Da’Sean was the third on the team in scoring and second in rebounding on the night.
Looking overall at the season, Nelson is 4th on the team in minutes per game, 1st in field goal percentage, 3rd in points per game, 3rd in rebounds per game and has the 3rd most assists on the year. Given the stats, it is surprising he has only started four games on the year. This isn’t to mention his tendency to showcase high-flying and powerful dunks on a daily basis (like the one at the end of this article). With only four regular season games left and the conference tournament the only chance DePaul has of making March Madness, lets hope Da’Sean Nelson gets an increased role.
