Two area players are looking to make their way onto the Seattle Seahawks roster this fall. Cody Thompson (Huron) and Bryant Koback (Hol. Springfield) will be looking to join the Seahawks’ final offensive roster when final cuts are made at the end of August.
Thompson saw action in 2021 for Seattle on special teams for 5 games after a stellar collegiate career for the Toledo Rockets. Last season Thompson seemed poised to make a breakthrough to the final roster and be a contributing wide receiver before ending up on the Injured Reserve during the preseason. Now fully recovered, Thompson seems poised to make that next jump to the final roster. However, there are currently twelve wide receivers on the Seahawks roster, a number that will need to be trimmed down to around six by the time the season starts.
Koback, another standout Toledo Rocket, will be entering his second year of pro football. Last season Koback was a member of the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad. Koback was released at the end of the season and signed with Seattle in May. With only five running backs currently on the Seahawks’ roster it is likely Koback will either make the final roster or at least the practice squad.
Cody Thompson is the second Huron athlete to play in the NFL. The other was Bill Slyker in 1922. If Bryant Koback makes an appearance in a game this season, he will be the fourth Springfield graduate to play in the NFL. The others being Rick Upchurch, Todd France and Eric Page.
