Anthony Wayne boys win golf state title; First for NWO in 10 years

Anthony Wayne was Northwest Ohio’s lone team competing at the division one state championships this weekend. The Generals out shot the competition to take home the gold and become the first state championship team in boys golf from Northwest Ohio in ten years.
The Generals won the competition by three strokes over Akron Archbishop Hoban. Logan Sutto was runner-up as an individual, just one stroke off of first place. Ian Briars tied for 12th, Michael Distefano tied for 16th and Ted Robertson tied for 28th. Anthony Wayne also had the best 5th man score (used as a tiebreaker if needed) as Myles Murphy was five strokes ahead of any other 5th man.
Anthony Wayne was in fourth place following day one. However an eighteen stroke improvement on day two was enough to catapult them to victory.
This is the first boys golf state title in Northwest Ohio since Ottawa Hills in 2013. It is also the first golf state title for the Northern Lakes League and thirteenth boys golf state title for Lucas County.
This is the second team state title ever won by Anthony Wayne. The other being softball in 2003.

On October 21st Keaton Upshaw (Lima/Lima Senior) had 20 yards receiving and a touchdown in a Georgia Southern win over Lousiana-Monroe.
On October 21st Dakota Mathias (Elida) had 21 points in an Ulm win over Hamburg.
