Former Toledo Rogers basketball standouts Da’Sean Nelson and Jamiya Neal have found new homes in the transfer portal this offseason. Da’Sean Nelson is leaving DePaul and heading to Eastern Michigan while Jamiya Neal is leaving Arizona State for Creighton.
Da’Sean Nelson started his career at Kilgore College in Texas as a JUCO star. After two years he was recruited to Big East member DePaul. In his first year at DePaul he he averaged 10.0 points per game coming of the bench and became known for his high flying dunks. This past season DePaul stuggled to a 3-29 season as Da’Sean Nelson was truly there biggest threat in all facets of the game. Eastern Michigan will provide Nelson with more opportunities to win as well as maintaining a high level of competition.
Jamiya Neal will be leaving Arizona State after three seasons with the program. Neal took a prep year at Pheonix Hillcrest before joining the NCAA. Neal started out as an important role player for the Sun Devils before exploding onto the scene last year. Neal averaged 11.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Neal had previously entered the portal last season before deciding to return to Arizona State. Playing for Creighton will provide Neal with an immediate winning atmosphere in a tough Big East conference.
Both Da’Sean Nelson and Jamiya Neal were the top two local athletes playing men’s basketball at the Division I level last season.
